Yet again, this past June, our team found ourselves on a long plane ride across the Atlantic on our way to Africa. Ethiopia was our destination, and once more we found ourselves amazed at the work God is doing halfway across the globe. Our mission, to bless the kids our sponsors so passionately seek to provide an education for, and to facilitate a time to meet with the students to gain personal knowledge on their school year. We also, had the privilege to give the children shoes and other clothes donated by some of our amazing friends and sponsors. A Chance To See God's Work As we began our work in Awasa, we quickly began to realize that, of course, a reliance on God was key to a successful trip, and once again God did not disappoint. On this specific trip there were two main ways that God showed us his Glory, provision, and desires for Love For Ethiopia. The Experience First and foremost, We saw our mission at work in the growth of the students, as it is our goal not to just give to a child, but to help a child grow through something they will never lose, an education. Although, a long lasting education is key, we were able to visit some of the homes that our kids lived in, dropping off food and gifts from our sponsors. It is always the greatest pleasure of the trip to split up and visit different homes around the town. Not only is it a humbling experience seeing how our children spend their nights, but it proves to be the greatest of motivations to continue God’s work in Ethiopia. We truly don’t know who is blessed more, the children by receiving attention, food, gifts, and love, or Courtney and myself as we get to finally visit, learn about, and learn from some of the children sponsored by Love For Ethiopia. After all, when a grandmother spends time praying for us and our needs, even though she is struggling to provide for her grandchild, how can we not feel like the more blessed in that situation. Always Learning The second truth God showed our team was to never stop learning. If we were not hanging out with our children it seemed we were learning something new about the culture, the people, or how to better Love For Ethiopia. The primary learning experiences came through a group called Ebenezer Grace. We have known this group for several years, but on this trip we were able to spend a great amount of time with some of their founders. We were able to visit their homes, compounds, orphanages, and offices as we learned more about being successful in a third world country.
